Black History Month Spotlight

Callen-Lorde Community Health Center

For Black History Month, we want to spotlight one of our partners, Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, for the amazing work they do for the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities!

Based out of New York, Callen-Lorde is a global leader in LGBTQ health care and they offer exceptional comprehensive care without judgment and regardless of ability to pay. We help Callen-Lorde manage their 340B pharmacies, a federal program that allows Covered Entities (CE) purchase medications at a discounted price, enabling the CEs to use the savings to provide services and support for patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Over one-third of Callen-Lorde’s 17,000 patients are uninsured, nearly 25% are living with HIV, and 27% identify as transgender or gender non-binary.

This month, Callen-Lorde is shining a light on Black LGBTQIA+ healthcare advocates, change makers, and community leaders. There are so many Black activists who are currently leading the fight to break down barriers in health care and all systems that deny low-income, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ communities from accessing necessary services.

Callen-Lorde spotlights include Michael Roberson, a public health practitioner, advocate, teacher, and leader, and Linda Villarosa, a journalist who brings awareness to Black communities’ experiences in health care, the disproportionate maternal mortality rates for Black mothers, and the impact of the HIV epidemic on the Black community.

Join us in celebrating these icons for their courageous work!
